Stonewood Center – Round One Entertainment Complex

Stonewood has truly been my “baby” project. Located in Downey, California at the Stonewood Center Mall, this Round One will be the largest location to date—bringing together every major Round One component under one roof, along with a brand-new concept: a Japanese-based Food Hall. The three-story, 140,000-square-foot entertainment complex is an ambitious, high-energy project filled with so many moving parts. The 60,000-square-foot first floor houses a central kitchen, the expansive food hall, arcade space, redemption store, loading docks, and back-of-house areas. The 40,000-square-foot second floor includes bowling, billiards, offices, storage, restrooms, party rooms, arcade space, and a full Spo-Cha experience featuring a ninja course, kids gym, mechanical bull, trampoline park, and more. The third 40,000-square-foot level adds an inline skate park, batting cages, additional party rooms and billiards, ping pong, multi-courts for dodgeball, soccer, and basketball, plus even more Spo-Cha attractions. Being selected to work on a project of this scale has been an incredible opportunity and a valuable learning experience, as it has primarily been led by just my project manager and myself.

Preliminary Design & Test Fit

My involvement began early in the process with a test fit in CAD using the LOD line provided by the city to demonstrate how the full Round One program could function within the existing footprint. After the test fit plans were approved by Round One, I began building the existing structure in Revit, working from limited and low-quality drawings to develop an accurate base model that could support and advance the design development process. I produced interior elevations and renderings to communicate spatial intent to the client and help visualize the scale and energy of the space. In addition, I brought the model into SketchUp to explore exterior design concepts, developing and pitching façade improvements that aligned with Round One’s branding while enhancing the mall presence. This early phase required problem-solving, creativity, and constant coordination to ensure all program elements fit cohesively within the structure.

Construction Documentation & Phased Development

Following preliminary design, I assisted in assembling a fast-tracked demolition package to secure permits and initiate construction. This step was especially critical, as much of the second and third floors had already been vacated, while the first floor required significant demolition. After receiving demo approval, we transitioned into full construction documentation, organized into phases: beginning with the central kitchen package, followed by the Spo-Cha and entertainment areas, and now progressing into the food hall and arcade phase as we prepare a bid set.

This phased process has required strong coordination, adaptability, and highly detailed documentation to manage a facility of this scale and complexity. I have been involved in developing and refining sheets across the entire set, continually improving clarity, organization, and readability to ensure the drawings effectively communicate intent. The drawings shown above represent a portion of the work I have been directly responsible for throughout the project.

Site Audit & Revit Model Verification

Toward the end of demolition, our team conducted a two-day on-site audit to verify existing conditions. We captured extensive interior, exterior, and 360-degree photography, confirmed column grids and field measurements, documented structural heights, and identified areas of damage. This hands-on verification process was critical. Once back in the office, I updated the Revit model with accurate field data, which required multiple adjustments but significantly improved the integrity of our documentation. The audit ensured our drawings reflected real-world conditions and prevented potential construction conflicts.

Stonewood has allowed me to contribute across every stage—from test fit and modeling to renderings, site verification, demolition documentation, and phased construction drawings. I am excited to see this project through completion and look forward to being onsite for the final punch list, experiencing firsthand the scale and energy of a project I have been deeply involved in from the beginning.
